Gemini Live is now available for all Android users

Google began rolling out the Gemini Live feature to free Android users this month, and it’s now fully available, including 10 new voices, in English. This follows the launch for Gemini Advanced subscribers in August.

Gemini Live allows you to have a live dialog with Gemini, much like a normal conversation, where you can interrupt responses and add new instructions or information. This feature is accessed through the bottom right corner of the Gemini overlay or app, where it opens up a full-screen interface with “Hold” and “End” buttons at the bottom. The sound wave animation is pleasing to the eye, but you can minimize the app and Gemini Live will continue to run in the background while you attend to other tasks. You can say “stop” or swipe down on the notification to end the session.

All conversations are accompanied by a text transcript showing your requests and Gemini’s responses, allowing you to resume the session if necessary.

Ten new Gemini voices

Gemini Live now supports 10 new voices available to all users. To change your Gemini voice, you need to go to Gemini settings and select “Gemini Voice”:

  • Nova: Calm – Medium Range
  • Ursa: Engaged – Medium Range
  • Vega: Vivid – High Voice
  • Pegasus: Engaged – Deep voice
  • Orbit: Energetic – Deep voice
  • Lyra: Vibrant – High Voice
  • Orion: Bright – Deep Voice
  • Dipper: Engaging – Deep Voice
  • Eclipse: Energetic – Medium range
  • Capella: British accent – High voice

Future updates and feature enhancements

For now, Gemini Live doesn’t support Gemini extensions to access Gmail, YouTube Music and other services via live chat, but those features will be added as part of Project Astra, along with a camera usage feature. Google also plans to add support for Gemini Live to the iOS app in the future.

Gemini Live will also be added in the future.

To take advantage of all the new features, make sure the Google app is updated to the latest version, and force stop the Gemini app to download the updates if necessary.
