Release Date

Star Wars Outlaws will be released on August 30, 2024.

Platforms

Star Wars Outlaws will be released on all major current-gen systems. This includes PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Trailers

The summer of 2023 was lucky enough to get two trailers for Star Wars Outlaws at once. The first was the premiere trailer shown at the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2023. This trailer immediately states that Star Wars Outlaws will take place during the events of the original trilogy, specifically between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

The game won’t focus on that conflict, however, but on the criminal underworld of the Outer Rim. We’re introduced to protagonist Kay Vess, who is described as “an aspiring rogue looking for freedom and the means to start a new life.” She will be joined by her little alien companion, Nix.

On April 9, 2024, Ubisoft released a story trailer for Star Wars Outlaws. The trailer reveals that the Empire is so busy fighting the Rebels that everyone is outlawed and criminal organizations can operate at will. Kay has crossed the path of one of the most dangerous crime bosses and there is a bounty on her head. The only way out — rob this very boss and buy her freedom with the proceeds. But the bounty hunter will be on her trail the whole time while Kay tries to assemble a team to pull off the heist.

Before reappearing at Ubisoft Forward, Star Wars Outlaws managed to catch a glimpse of the game at Summer Game Fest 2024. In the first clips, a prominent character from the original trilogy appears. Sitting at the card table is none other than Lando Calrissian.

The main syndicates you’ll face include — the Hutt Family, Crimson Dawn, Ashiga Clan and the Pike Syndicate, each with a leader. The higher your reputation with each particular syndicate, the more benefits you receive. For example, the ability to explore their hideouts and access new items for purchase. If you have a bad reputation with a faction, you won’t be able to enter their territory, although you can sneak or fight your way in.

Gameplay

This will be an open world Star Wars game. When combat begins, Kay’s main weapon will be her trusty blaster. When facing an enemy, she will have multiple modes for her blaster. Kay’s health is divided into segments that, while one of them is not completely depleted, regenerate over time if not damaged.

To help explore the vast open world, Kay will have a speeder. It has its own acceleration meter and can be used in combat. While boarding the ship in the trailer, we see a clue to use a workbench, indicating the ability to upgrade weapons and gear. What turned out to be most surprising was that once you take off, you can fully control the ship and engage in fights with other ships. You can also take off from the surface directly into space and use the hyperdrive to jump to new locations.

Nix, Kay’s little alien beast, can do various things to help in and out of combat. He can distract enemies, steal items, and collect inaccessible items when highlighted with a blue icon. On your way through space, you may encounter a distress signal — this is an optional side objective that can be accomplished for extra credits.

In ship-to-ship combat, you have the ability to maneuver quickly, hand blasters, homing missiles, and a turret that automatically targets enemy ships. However, if you destroy ships belonging to a certain syndicate, you can ruin your reputation with them.

Nix can temporarily jump on enemies to give Kay time to get close and make a grab. He can also send out a pulse to detect enemies through walls within a certain range. When it gets hot, the type of ammo will make a difference. Normal explosions don’t do much against bots, but a single electrical discharge can make them explode.

Here’s what you need to do.
