Russian L-Type electric car prototype unveiled

The team of professionals at the famous Obukhovsky Zavod company, which is part of the Almaz-Antey concern, recently presented a functioning prototype of their latest developed electric car called L-Type. The main feature of this car, designed to make it competitive on the market, is its small dimensions and unusual battery replacement technology. The plan is to start production of this car as early as next year.

The dimensions of the electric car — 2.5×1.5×1.5 meters, which makes it possible to accommodate two passengers. However, thanks to a design solution that involves removing the rear seat, the L-Type can be converted into a small commercial vehicle. The vehicle is based on a space frame consisting of steel tubes on which composite panels are mounted.

Although the engine capacity has not yet been determined, the L-Type has a range of 183 kilometers. The developers plan to use a battery in this electric car consisting of six lightweight modules, each with a capacity of 2.66 kWh. These modules can be easily removed and charged separately in special devices known as “charging cabinets”. In this way, with enough modules, a constant supply of energy can be maintained.

The battery can be recharged at any time.

The L-Type is tentatively scheduled to be assembled at the production facilities of a plant formerly owned by Toyota in St. Petersburg, Russia. Production is due to start next year.
