Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite is the latest ARM chip for notebooks

The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile chip will be used in the latest flagship Android smartphones and tablets, but the company has also announced its new high-end chip for Windows-based laptops on ARM — the Snapdragon X Elite. Developers are hoping that with their latest SoC they can capture a bigger share of the PC chipset market and are making a big bet on performance and efficiency.
Snapdragon X Elite is the latest SoC to be unveiled.
Snapdragon X Elite is made using a 4nm process and features 12 high-performance Oryon cores clocked at 3.8GHz and the ability to overclock one and two cores to 4.3GHz. Qualcomm claims that the new processor is as good as Intel’s competing 13th generation processors in terms of multi-threaded performance, while consuming 68% less power. Meanwhile, the Snapdragon X Elite is compared to Apple’s own ARM chip, the M2, and claims 50 percent higher peak multithreaded performance.

When it comes to graphics, the X Elite features an integrated Adreno GPU with 4.6 TFLOPs and support for the DirectX 12 API. The chip is capable of handling up to 3 external UHD monitors with a refresh rate of 60Hz. Video editors can take advantage of the Adreno Video Processing Unit (VPU), which supports 10-bit encoding and decoding of H.264, HEVC (H.265), and AV1 files in 4K60.

Qualcomm has also added a 45 tera operations per second (TOPs) Hexagon NPU processor, which is great for generative artificial intelligence tasks. The Snapdragon X Elite can process more than 13 billion parameters executed on the device and generate 30 tokens per second.

The chip supports LPDDR5x RAM with up to 136GB/s bandwidth and 42MB total cache, as well as PCIe Gen4 or UFS 4.0 drives. In terms of connectivity, the Snapdragon X Elite gets the FastConnect 7800 system with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 support, as well as the Snapdragon X65 5G cellular modem with peak download speeds of up to 10Gbps.
The Snapdragon X Elite is the only one that supports the FastConnect 7800 system with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 support.

X Elite supports lossless audio playback thanks to Qualcomm Aqstic DAC, and features Qualcomm Spectra image signal processor (ISP) with support for dual cameras with up to 36MP resolution and 4K HDR video capture.
