Xiaomi is gearing up to release its first NAS server with Mi Home ecosystem support

Earlier this year, reports surfaced that Xiaomi was working on its first NAS device, a new direction for the company. Interestingly, the idea of a NAS was not originally part of Xiaomi’s plans. It all started when a promotional image of one of the brand’s 10G routers accidentally reminded users of a NAS. It sparked a lot of discussion online, and after receiving a positive reaction from the community, the company decided to turn the concept into reality.

According to the latest leaks, the device is already close to release. According to insider Smart Pikachu, Xiaomi’s new NAS will support both 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA hard drives. The device will be compatible with Android, iOS, Windows, macOS and Linux-based TVs, and in concept it will focus on simple consumer use, similar to Huawei’s solutions. It is expected to launch at the same time as the Xiaomi 17 Ultra smartphone.

Xiaomi’s general manager of the Xiaomi ecosystem, Chen Bo, previously spoke about the company’s vision. He described the device as «a smart storage center» for Mi Home users. The NAS will sync with Xiaomi phones, TVs, tablets and PCs, providing functions for mobile storage expansion, AI-assisted smart photo album sorting, movie poster libraries, remote access and downloads.

The NAS will also provide mobile storage expansion, AI-assisted smart photo album sorting, remote access and downloads.

Sources said the mass production and internal tests of the device were completed in early October 2025. Chen Bo confirmed that the official release will take place before the end of the year. Unlike professional NAS systems, Xiaomi’s solution will focus on simplicity and «plug-and-play»-experience, making NAS accessible to a wide range of users. The company also plans to improve compatibility with Apple devices and strengthen the integration of NAS into its smart ecosystem.
