The Renault Twingo E-Tech electric car will debut in 2026 for less than 20,000 euros

The Renault Twingo E-Tech electric car (full official name) will hit the European market in early 2026 and will be priced at less than 20,000 euros. This makes it one of the most affordable electric cars amid skyrocketing prices in Europe, but at this cost the manufacturer has had to make a number of compromises.

To achieve such a low price, Renault has simplified the model’s design considerably. The car is powered by a single 60 kW (82 hp) electric motor that propels the Twingo to 100 km/h in 12.1 seconds. The top speed is 130 km/h.

The model gets a 27.5 kWh battery (LFP) that provides a range of up to 263 kilometers on the WLTP cycle. Renault believes that the Twingo’s target audience averages around 35 km per day, so this is enough for urban commuting. Charging from the 6.6 kW AC power takes 4 hours and 15 minutes (10% to 100%).

For those who want faster charging, there’s an optional Advanced Charge package that includes support for 11kW AC and 50kW DC. Renault promises that this package will be «offered at an attractive price» but has not yet disclosed the cost. With 11kW, charging will take 2 hours and 35 minutes, and when connected to a 50kW DC station —10% to 80% in just 30 minutes.

The Advanced Charge package also adds support for Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), which allows you to power appliances up to 3,700 watts from an on-board 220-volt mains supply. It also features Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G), which allows you to use the battery to feed power back to the grid.

Renault Twingo E-Tech supports single pedal driving, and paddles on the steering wheel allow you to adjust the level of regeneration. The software is built on Android Automotive, which provides Google Maps integration and route optimization with charging stations in mind. Google Play with more than a hundred apps is also available.
