In November 2022, the game went offline for a few weeks so Activision could focus on launching a successor, which was called Warzone 2.0 at the time, but the number has since disappeared from the name.
The original Warzone was relaunched as a stripped-down Warzone Caldera, named after the World War II-themed island map that replaced the launch map Verdansk.

In Caldera, players could access all purchased or unlocked skins and weapons from the three premium Call of Duty games that aren’t compatible with the new Warzone. Activision announced in June that it planned to end support for the game this month to focus on other Call of Duty content.

After Caldera closes, players will be able to access purchased content in Modern Warfare, Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard multiplayer modes. The Call of Duty game coming out this year, Modern Warfare 3, is a direct sequel to last year’s Modern Warfare 2. The game is scheduled for release on November 10, 2023. Development is being handled by Sledgehammer in conjunction with Infinity Ward, while Treyarch is responsible for the Zombies mode.
