The main advantage of Android — is its flexibility: the system is able to adapt to any format and screen size almost effortlessly. It’s this quality that has brought forgotten form factors back to life, including classic devices like the old Blackberry. And for Nintendo DS and 3DS fans, it’s given rise to a new wave of dual-screen Android handheld consoles. Now manufacturers like AYANEO and AYN have been joined by ANBERNIC, which has unveiled its own dual-screen console called the RG DS. Its main trump card will be its affordable price — less than $100.

Despite the simple name, the device looks pretty spectacular. The teaser shows several colors: glossy red, shiny blue, creamy white and a transparent variant. The last one especially stands out — the transparent case is made with a fully glass top, making the console visually similar to collectible models. The rest of the colors are clearly inspired by the classic Nintendo DS and 3DS versions.

The characteristics of the new product have not been revealed yet, but it is known that the RG DS will cost significantly cheaper than analogs from competitors and even its own senior models ANBERNIC — RG Slide and RG 477M. At the same time, the console will be more technologically advanced than the brand’s simplest devices, like the RG351P, which costs about $50.

Despite the budget price tag, the RG DS will feature full gaming controls — two sticks and a classic set of buttons, though RGB backlighting will likely be removed.

Preliminary leaks suggest the console is based on the RG 476H and designed specifically to emulate games from the Nintendo DS. The second screen will presumably have a 256×192 pixel resolution, which will help recreate the original experience of the Nintendo DSi console, which is inspired by the new product’s exterior.
