Apple Vision Pro 2 risks coming out with an outdated chip

A controversy has swirled around the next generation Apple Vision Pro: which chip will be installed in the headset – the M4 or the M5? Previously, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that the device would get the M5 with Apple Intelligence support. However, Power On’s Mark Gurman insists the company is still testing a version with the M4.
The controversy surrounding the Apple Vision Pro 2 processor
The first version of the Vision Pro came out on the M2 chip, even though the M3 was already available by then. Apple attributed this to the fact that the device was announced a year before release. That could be the case with the second generation, where the M4 will be less relevant than the M5 by launch, but it’ll also lower the cost of the headset.
According to Bloomberg, Apple is considering both the M4 and M5 at once. That means a final decision has yet to be made. The leaked code only confirms that different configurations are being tested.
Price and features are more important than speed
As Gurman points out, the Vision Pro’s problem isn’t just performance. The main deterrents are the $3499 price tag and the lack of truly unique features. So moving to a newer chip is unlikely to be a breakthrough.
An insider predicts that the Vision Pro won’t see major changes until 2027. At that point, there will be a lighter and cheaper model aimed at the mass market.
