Samsung continues to release security updates for its older devices, and now it’s the turn of the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra. More than four years after release, the 2020 flagships have received an April 2025 security patch. It’s likely one of the last updates before official support ends.

The update is already available in a number of countries

The actual security patch began rolling out in late April and is now available in Europe, including Germany and Poland, as well as India and other parts of Asia. You can identify the update by its build number, which ends in HYD1 or HYD3 – depending on the region.

As before, the update can be installed over the air via device settings or manually via a computer by downloading the firmware from the SamMobile database and using the Odin program.

Final Support Phase

The Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra are on the quarterly security update schedule, which means the next update, if there is one, will be the last. Both devices have officially received updates for five years, and that expires in August 2025.

Remember, the last major update to the One UI shell was released for the Note 20 lineup in 2023. After that, the smartphones went into a security-only support phase.

Is it time for an upgrade?”

If you’re still using a Galaxy Note 20 or Note 20 Ultra, now’s a good time to consider a replacement. The devices won’t get any more new features, and support will end very soon.

A valid alternative is Galaxy S25 Ultra, especially for those who appreciate larger screens and stylus support. It’s worth keeping in mind, though: the next-generation S Pen loses Bluetooth, but the stylus retains its core functionality.
