Chery has unveiled an unexpected rebirth of the QQ model

Chery has unveiled an unexpected rebirth of the iconic QQ compact car in Shanghai. Once associated with simple and inexpensive urban transportation, it’s now a bold concept that completely changes the model’s image and format. There’s almost nothing left of the old “baby” except the name.
At the Shanghai International Motor Show, where Chery traditionally shows not only production cars but also futuristic concepts, the company unveiled a fresh version of the QQ – and it turned out to be the complete opposite of the previous model. Instead of a budget siticar from the early 2000s, it’s a stylish and unusual electric car that combines the features of a hatchback and a compact crossover.
A new look: a little Mini, a little Citroën
The design of the new car is surprising: the car looks more like an urban hatchback with Mini Cooper notes, but at the same time in the design of the sides you can guess references to Citroën C4 Cactus – oval inserts give the body personality and visual dynamics. Technically, it’s a five-door, but with a distinctly experimental approach to proportions and styling.

The concept is similar to the former QQ, which in its time resembled Daewoo Matiz and was actively sold in Russia, except for the name. In terms of its idea, it’s a whole other level – Chery’s attempt to show what an affordable electric city car of the future could be.
Electric drive and compact dimensions
Not much is known about the specs so far. The dimensions are 3720×1700×1599 mm and the wheelbase is 2520 mm. The prototype has 15-inch wheels and is equipped with a 54-horsepower electric motor. That’s all the company has shared so far – no battery, range or drivetrain details have been revealed.

Nevertheless, it’s already clear: Chery hasn’t just freshened up an old model, it’s completely reimagined it. The new QQ is no longer “cheap for students,” but a full-fledged member of the next generation of urban mobility.
