Rolls-Royce has unveiled a chess set that looks like an art object

This is the kind of board that only Rolls-Royce could have come up with. Absolute minimalism, premium materials and impeccable detailing turn the game of chess into a design performance.
Many automakers like to release branded accessories, from baseball caps to coffee cups, but Rolls-Royce has taken the idea to a whole new level. The company has unveiled a luxury chess set called Rolls-Royce Chess Board, and it really does look like a piece from a futuristic gallery. The chess board and pieces are handcrafted from ceramic-coated aluminum, and each square of the playing board is a single piece of natural wood laser-cut from a single slice of veneer. All to ensure that the texture and color of the wood ages evenly, emphasizing attention to detail.

Magnets, metal and impeccable symmetry – all in the Rolls-Royce canon
Each chess piece has a hidden magnet at the base, and reciprocal magnets are embedded beneath each square of the board. This not only ensures perfect centering on every move, but also creates a sense of precision and rigor – like the engineering of the brand’s cars. The pieces themselves are aluminum monoliths with polished stainless steel heads. Their design references the massive organ switches found in the interior of a real Rolls-Royce.

In short, it’s not just chess – it’s an extension of the brand’s DNA. Everything is minimalist but luxurious, from the concise shapes to the premium materials. Even the packaging is aesthetics and functionality in one: the piece storage compartment can be covered in one of 13 leather options, and the board itself is available in four veneers.

Price? Don’t ask. It’s a Rolls-Royce
Like the company’s cars, the chess set can’t just be bought online. To order a Rolls-Royce Chess Board, you have to go to a company showroom or boutique. The manufacturer is silent about the production time and cost – which in itself says a lot. Apparently, if you are asking «how much it costs», you are not their target audience.

The manufacturer doesn’t claim a limited edition, though. So, theoretically, someone will still have a chance to touch this object of desire – perhaps in a few years on eBay. But for now, we can only admire the photos and dream.
