Honor and Google Cloud revealed the future of AI smartphones: the magic is already in motion

At the Google Cloud Next 2025 conference, Honor announced an expanded strategic partnership with Google and unveiled a number of advanced AI-powered features. Leveraging the power of Gemini’s language models and Imagen’s image generation technology, Honor is making AI tools available even in mid-range devices – and aims to completely redefine the user experience.

ALPHA PLAN strategy: on course for global leadership in AI

In March, Honor revealed a sweeping strategy called ALPHA PLAN, under which the company aims to take a leading position in the market for smart devices with artificial intelligence. A key element of this initiative has been a close partnership with Google Cloud, providing access to cutting-edge infrastructure and unique AI expertise.

Building on the power of Google Cloud, Honor is now actively incorporating both on-premises and cloud-based features into its smartphones. This includes improving image processing algorithms and integrating intelligent assistants into the device’s interface.

AiMAGE: a new era of photo post-processing

At a conference in Las Vegas, Eric Fan, senior director of product planning at Honor, unveiled the AI-enhancement feature, one of the central capabilities of the AiMAGE AI suite. The technology builds on Google’s Imagen model and allows you to literally “expand” a photo beyond the frame, enlarging the image up to two times without loss of quality.

Users can change the composition, rotate the scene, and focus on the moment rather than the perfect frame setup. Generative context filling happens automatically, even in complex scenes with architectural or natural elements.

Remove the superfluous: AI eraser for spot editing

The second key feature introduced at Google Cloud Next was the AI Elbow, a tool for removing unwanted objects from photos. With a few taps, distracting elements disappear, and background generation is so realistic that it leaves almost no trace of tampering. This is made possible by Imagen’s deep learning of the model and its ability to contextually reconstruct the image.

AI features aren’t just for flagships

The company is paying special attention to the accessibility of new technologies. Eric Phan noted that democratization of AI is at the core of Honor’s philosophy. The new features are not limited to the premium segment: for example, the Honor 400 Lite smartphone, recently introduced in Europe, already supports AI-enhancement, AI eraser and AI upscaling.

Honor’s approach is to ensure that innovative tools are used en masse, regardless of the price of the device. This allows users to experience the benefits of AI in their everyday shooting and work.

The next wave: video, Gemini and task automation

At the end of the presentation, Eric Phan hinted at the next generation of Honor devices coming as early as May 2025. The new models will utilize Google’s Veo technology to generate realistic motion video, and integrate Gemini into office applications and automation systems for everyday tasks.

This deep integration of AI into the user interface will not only improve the quality of content, but also make Honor smartphones full-fledged intelligent assistants.

Future Vector

The partnership with Google Cloud has not only given Honor access to cutting-edge models and tools, but also set a new standard of functionality for the entire industry. The co-development of AI features reflects the company’s commitment to anticipating user expectations by creating devices that work intuitively, quickly, and intelligently.
