Samsung is developing a smartphone with four bendable screens

Samsung has long dominated the market for foldable devices, and it looks like the company is ready to take the next bold step. A new patent points to the development of a unique smartphone with four panels and three hinges -a form factor that could be called quad-fold. It’s potentially Samsung’s most ambitious foldable concept to date.
Four screens, three folds — and one futuristic patent
The patent, titled «Electronic Device with Flexible Display» describes a smartphone consisting of four horizontal panels connected by three hinges and joined together by a single flexible display. The drawings of the device show the idea of a smartphone that can be folded at least three timesto form the most compact design possible.

It’s an early application for now, and the form factor itself could be a prototype, test idea, or strategic patent -a way to lock in a concept for the future when the technology and market are ready.
There’s also tri-fold – it’s closer to reality
The patent also mentions a tri-panel device with two hinges, USB-C and a triple camera. This variant looks much more realistic – perhaps it’s what was teased at Galaxy Unpacked 2025. Two versions of such a smartphone were recently spotted in the GSMA database under the numbers SM-F9680 (likely the Chinese version) and SM-F968N (the South Korean model), indicating a limited geographic launch.

Samsung continues to lead the foldable form factor race
The company began the foldable-screen journey more than six years ago with the original Galaxy Z Fold, and since then has consistently outperformed competitors, including Apple, which has yet to introduce a single flexible device.
The emergence of the quad-fold patent is not only a demonstration of Samsung’s technological potential, but also a bid for the future of the flexible device market. Even if such a smartphone doesn’t come out in the next few years, one thing is clear: Samsung’s engineers are thinking beyond the immediate release.
