“Spider-Man: Beyond the Universe” will be released in theaters in 2027

Sony has finally set a premiere date for the third film in the animated Spider-Man universe – the film Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will reach screens on June 4, 2027. The studio announced the news at the annual CinemaCon trade show, where it also unveiled a new trailer and fresh footage from the film.

The release was originally scheduled for March 2024, which is just a year after the release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. However, the studio had to delay the premiere – first because of unrealistic production timelines, and then because of the massive SAG-AFTRA strike that paralyzed the Hollywood industry in the summer of 2023. Production resumed only in December, but at that time Sony did not even dare to give an approximate release date.

Now, a year and a half after the previous movie, the project has finally found certainty. According to Variety and Gizmodo, during a presentation at CinemaCon, directors Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, as well as producer Phil Lord, emphasized that all the delays have been good for the film. According to them, such a large-scale and technically complex animation requires a tremendous amount of effort on the part of the art and animation team, and rushing could only have hurt the final result.

The new footage shown during the presentation features familiar characters including Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore), his alternate version Miles Morales (Jarrell Jerome), and Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld). Fans are eagerly awaiting the sequel, but after such a long pause, the creators will have to regain the audience’s trust and convince viewers that the third movie will be just as spectacular as its predecessors.
