Gmail’s new AI-powered search now sorts emails by relevance instead of chronologically

On Thursday, the company announced that it is introducing artificial intelligence to improve email search. The system will now take into account things like the age of messages, frequently used emails, and regular contacts based on your query. Previously, Gmail simply sorted emails by time based on keywords.
An artificial intelligence system will now take into account things like how long ago emails were sent and how often they were used, based on your query.
“With this update, the emails you’re looking for will be more likely to appear at the top of the results, saving you time and making it easier to find important information,” the company said in a blog post.
In addition, Google is introducing a new toggle that will allow users to choose between sorting by “Most Relevant” and “Most Recent” emails on the search results page. The switch is for those who prefer to see results in chronological order rather than the default “Most Relevant.”
The update is available to users with personal Google accounts worldwide and can be used in both the web version and the Gmail app for Android and iOS. Google plans to expand this feature to business users in the future.
