YouTube is expanding its subscription lineup by offering a new option called Premium Lite.
What does YouTube Premium Lite offer?
The Premium Lite subscription gets rid of ads in most videos. However, unlike standard Premium, it doesn’t include video downloads, background playback and YouTube Music.
YouTube notes that ads may still appear in Shorts, music videos, and search and watch recommendations.
The subscription costs $7.99 a month, while standard YouTube Premium costs $13.99. That’s a savings of $6 monthly, or $72 a year.
YouTube Premium Lite is currently available in the US in test mode. In the coming weeks, the subscription will be available to all users in Germany, Thailand and Australia, where limited testing was previously conducted. The company plans to expand availability in the future.
YouTube Premium now has more than 125 million subscribers worldwide, including trial users. The launch of the Lite version is a way to reach new users who don’t need the advanced features of Premium, but want to watch videos without ads.
