Today marks 34 years since the first website was created, and since that day the internet has fundamentally changed our world. It was an event that perhaps no one could have predicted at the time, and a pivotal moment in the history of technology.

On December 20, 1990, English scientist Tim Berners-Lee installed the first website on a server. This event took place at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research), and the site was only available to CERN employees. Many sources indicate that the site was made available to the world on August 6, 1991, but in fact that is when it was opened to all Internet users.

The concept of a server was not widely known at the time, and Berners-Lee attached a warning note to the NeXT computer on which the site was stored: “This computer is a server. DO NOT turn it off!”
