Apple will drop the phrase “hello, Siri”

Today is the WWDC 2023 conference, which will feature, among other things, Apple. Yesterday, there was a rumor that the company may announce a change in the way the Siri voice assistant is called at the event.

In the meantime, the company is expected to announce a change in the way it calls the Siri voice assistant.

At present, we can activate Siri by holding down the power button or saying “Hello, Siri.” Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple will eliminate the already familiar phrase.

It will now be possible to simply say «Siri» to summon the assistant, without using the wake-up phrase at the beginning. The change is part of a larger effort by Apple to improve Siri’s accuracy and responsiveness. The company is working to make Siri more natural and user-friendly, and this change will be a significant step in that direction.

This may seem like a small change, but the transition is a technical challenge that requires a significant amount of AI training and basic engineering. The difficulty is that Siri may not understand the phrase “Siri” in certain accents and dialects. Having two words – “Hello, Siri” – increases the likelihood that the system will catch the signal correctly. – Mark Gurman.
