IFA 2024. Qualcomm will talk about Snapdragon X series expansion

The president and CEO of Qualcomm will speak at IFA 2024 to talk about the expansion of its Snapdragon X Series processor lineup. Qualcomm will announce an expansion of its Snapdragon X series of processors at IFA 2024. So far, Qualcomm hasn’t revealed any details about the upcoming presentation, other than mentioning that the company plans to “bring high performance, energy efficiency and AI capabilities to more users with Copilot+ PCs.” The press conference will begin at 7:00 a.m. U.S. Eastern Time (ET) on September 4, 2024 and will last one hour. Cristiano Amon, President and CEO of the company, will speak during the event.

The live stream will be available to watch on the official Qualcomm YouTube channel. We’ll also cover all the news from the event and other important announcements at IFA 2024.

Qualcomm Snapdragon X Series vs. Intel Core Ultra Series 2

Intel kicked off IFA 2024 with a major processor announcement, and now we’ll have to see how Qualcomm responds. While we don’t know exactly what to expect from Qualcomm’s presentation, we can assume that the Snapdragon X Series expansion will include new processors. The question is, will the announced new products compete with Intel’s Core Ultra Series 2 processors unveiled today, or will they go their own way?”

After much anticipation earlier this year, Qualcomm finally released the Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus. The main focus on these chips was on the AI capabilities, but for most users, the main takeaway was the performance and battery life. It’s because of these parameters that laptops based on the Snapdragon X Elite and its less powerful counterpart received high marks.

Snapdragon X Plus

“So does the Snapdragon X Elite live up to expectations? In short, absolutely yes,” said senior editor Zach Bowden in his review of the ASUS VivoBook S 15. “This chip is a true beast, delivering incredible performance in just about any task. Whether it’s web surfing with multiple tabs, multitasking, rendering video and audio, hosting a podcast, or even gaming, the Snapdragon X Elite handles it all.”

The Snapdragon X Elite can handle it all.

Other devices, such as the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x (Gen 9) and HP EliteBook Ultra G1q, have also helped form a positive impression of Qualcomm’s new processors. With attention-grabbing performance and efficiency, Qualcomm seemed to be ahead of Intel in some key aspects. But Intel now claims that its new Core Ultra Series 2 processors offer better battery life than comparable Qualcomm chips, even when tested on devices from the same manufacturers and in identical cases. Intel’s new processors also have up to 48 TOPS and support for Copilot+ PCs, which will be released later this year. If AI has an impact on consumer preferences, it could be an important factor in choosing a PC.

Now all that’s left to do is wait. Will Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X lineup expansion compete with Intel’s new chips in terms of power and efficiency, or will Qualcomm go in a different direction? We’ll find out soon enough, and we can watch the news live from IFA 2024.

We’ll find out soon enough.
