Ilon Musk: Tesla Roadster will be out in 2025

Tesla CEO Ilon Musk is once again trying to stir up excitement around the long-awaited next-generation Roadster. Known for his bold statements and ridiculous promises, this time he’s anticipating a ground-breaking demonstration in 2025 that will showcase the electric car’s ability to ‘fly’. Speaking at Tesla’s recent X Takeover event, Musk reiterated his ambitious timeline for the Roadster, saying small-scale production is expected to begin in 2025.

When Tesla first unveiled the Roadster concept in 2017, it boasted impressive performance figures, including a 0-to-60mph acceleration time of 1.9 seconds and a top speed in excess of 250mph. Since then, however, Musk has upped the ante, saying the Roadster will be powered by 10 rocket engines developed by SpaceX, allowing it to outperform rivals in acceleration and braking and even achieve short hover periods.

While these claims are certainly far-fetched, Musk assured that the Roadster will be “something special,” the result of a joint effort between Tesla and SpaceX that combines rocket engineering with electric vehicle technology. He even described it as an “alien technology” that will create a truly extraordinary vehicle.

The CEO’s confidence in the Tesla Roadster’s impact was further emphasized by his prediction that the demonstration would be “stunning,” potentially surpassing any other demonstration ever seen. However, he did not dwell on the reasons for the significant delay in bringing the car to market, which, if the 2025 timeline holds, will mark eight years since its initial announcement.

The Tesla Roadster’s launch is expected to be a “smashing success”.
