Nintendo Switch 2 console delayed until 2025

Nintendo has pushed back the Switch 2’s release to 2025, previously expected in the fall of 2024. It’s speculated that the delay may be due to a desire to bolster the launch lineup with games from internal developers. The Switch 2 will be released eight years after the Switch’s debut, most likely also in March. As a reminder, Nintendo’s previous consoles had shorter active lifecycles.

Switch has celebrated a number of game and console sales records, managing to exceed Nintendo’s expectations in terms of profitability. After releasing Another Code: Recollection and Mario vs. Donkey Kong, only Princess Peach: Showtime! and Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD have been announced for release on Switch in 2024. Insiders say the lineup will be expanded in the coming months, including the announcement of new «Pokémon» for Switch. Sources urge not to expect new blockbuster-level titles like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Switch in 2024.
