Starwind SPM7169 planetary mixer review: not a bad helper

The Starwind SPM7169 is an indispensable kitchen assistant for those who cook often. It is suitable for both simple whipping of liquid ingredients and for kneading dough. In general, this Starwind mixer is a good option for those who are looking for reliable, but at the same time – inexpensive household appliances. Now its price is 7,990 rubles, so you should take a closer look at it.

Appearance of Starwind SPM7169

The mixer looks neat. In my case, the turquoise color is rich and all elements are evenly colored.

The top of the mixer lifts up with a lever. I recommend holding it down when opening it, as there is a spring mechanism. To lower the lid, you will also need to push down on this lever. The wire is sturdy and quite long – about 1.5 meters.

There are 6 rubberized feet on the bottom that do a good job. You don’t even need to turn the mixer on first to realize that they really do hold it well. You’ll notice this especially well when the Starwind SPM7169 is running at high speeds. Yes, the table will vibrate a bit from the mixer’s operation, but the mixer itself will not go anywhere from you. Therefore, you can safely turn it on to knead the dough, and get busy preparing the filling. Of course, when I talk about good grip, I mean a flat table, not a carpet.

In the photo above, you can see the slots for air venting. Honestly, no matter how long I had the mixer running, it didn’t get very hot. The only downside I’ve noticed after prolonged use is an unpleasant plastic odor. But there are no other complaints.

Now let’s talk about the bowl. It’s quite roomy, and you can put a clear plastic disk on top of it to keep ingredients like flour or powder from flying all over the kitchen. This disk also has a slot to add ingredients. The bowl itself has a handle that looks quite sturdy. The bowl slides into the recess of the Starwind and locks into place with a twist. So if you were worried that the bowl would spin with the whisk at high speed, there’s no need to worry.

It’s time to discuss attachments. The whisk is for liquid ingredients, the paddle is for thicker ingredients (like softened butter or cottage cheese), and the hook is for kneading dough. Each attachment does its job perfectly, no complaints yet. It is stated that they are made of stainless steel. How they are in reality – I don’t know, but they look a bit strange, as if they are covered with some kind of film on top. But again, no problems in use.

I’ll say a few more words about the Starwind SPM7169’s speeds and power. There are six of them, and there’s also a pulse mode. This means that you manually accelerate the mixer to maximum speed, and as long as you keep the switch on the letter «P», the mixer will work. In basic mode, just select the desired speed and you can go about your business.

Starwind SPM7169

Are these speeds enough? Yes, more than enough. At top speed, the Starwind SPM7169 will whip up a lush whipping cream with no problem, and that’s one of the top marks for a mixer. Especially if we’re comparing it to a hand whisk or a hand mixer.

Here’s how it works.

Another disadvantage I’ve noticed in all the time I’ve been using it is that the whisk doesn’t reach the bottom of the bowl. If we’re talking about kneading dough, it’s not that critical. But if you need to whisk one or two proteins, the whisk simply won’t reach it. So you have to get fancy – you either lightly (and very gently!) push the lid down so that the whisk reaches the ingredients, or you don’t secure the bowl and hold it up so that the whisk reaches the bottom.

Of course, there’s the noise, which makes it sound like the Starwind SPM7169 is about to fly off somewhere. But a mixer can’t be quiet. So this point isn’t a disadvantage, but rather a feature of this type of appliance.

No, it’s not a disadvantage.

Findings of the Starwind SPM7169

Starwind SPM7169 is a good option if you are choosing your first planetary mixer. It will last you for a long time if used properly and will do all the work assigned to it. Yes, there are a couple of downsides – the plastic smell, the whisk doesn’t reach the bottom of the bowl, the noise – but they’re not that noticeable, especially when you see the results of your cooking.

If you’re a professional pastry chef or a longtime cook, this model probably won’t work for you for a number of reasons. These include the small bowl load and its relatively small volume. The Starwind SPM7169 doesn’t have the greatest power, and the whisk path may not appeal to all professionals.

Nevertheless, I can safely assure you that this mixer does a good job of making dough for scones or marshmallows, which are some of the most finicky dishes. So, if you decide to take this mixer into your family, it will serve you well and become an indispensable assistant in the kitchen.

The mixer is a great way to make dough for muffins or marshmallows, and these are some of the most finicky dishes.
