Tecno and DXOMARK have created an automated camera evaluation lab

Smartphone brand Tecno and camera testing company DXOMARK have announced the launch of the Tecno DXOMARK Joint Imaging Laboratory, the world’s first fully automated imaging evaluation lab.
The lab opened in Chongqing, China, implementing the first DXOMARK Camera V6 protocol. Through the partnership, Tecno and DXOMARK intend to set a new standard for camera evaluation through fully automated testing, multidimensional skin tone adaptation and intelligent regional adjustment. With the introduction of Camera V6, new benchmarks for test efficiency, consistency and objectivity can be set.
The lab’s precision automation system uses micron-precision robotic arms, fully automated test table changes and AI-driven simulation of environmental conditions. All testing processes are performed without human intervention.

The lab also provides comprehensive image evaluation using scientifically calibrated 2D color tables representing different skin tones around the world. This allows accurate calibration of color rendition and textures for the full range of human skin types.
The lab also supports regional customization of testing protocols based on preferences in different markets. For example, for African users, the system enhances exposure calibration because brighter images are in demand there. In Southeast Asia, on the other hand, the focus is on optimizing noise reduction, as the audience is particularly interested in the clarity of night photos.
Tecno said it will integrate the lab’s capabilities into its own mobile imaging innovation roadmap. The company said this will “enable the continuous evolution of algorithms based on multiple skin tone data and accelerate the development of highly adaptive intelligent solutions for a diverse set of global markets.”
