Samsung may replace the Galaxy S26+ with a new Edge model

Samsung may be dropping the Galaxy S26+ model in its next flagship generation. This is according to GSMA data highlighted by SammyPolice. Instead of the Plus version, the South Korean manufacturer may introduce the Galaxy S26 Edge – which would be the biggest revision of the Galaxy S lineup in years.
Leaks point to three Galaxy S26 models
The GSMA database has revealed three devices labeled SM-S942, SM-S947 and SM-S948. Following traditional naming logic, the SM-S942 should correspond to the base Galaxy S26, the SM-S947 to the new Galaxy S26 Edge, and the SM-S948 to the top-of-the-line Galaxy S26 Ultra.
Samsung previously used the following scheme: the number 1 at the end of the number denotes the regular model, 6 denotes the Plus version, and 8 denotes the Ultra. In the case of the leaked Galaxy S26, there’s no model with an index ending in 6. Instead, there’s a variant with the number 7, which was previously labeled Galaxy S25 Edge.
The Edge variant may replace the Plus
If the information is confirmed, Samsung will radically change its product strategy. The abandonment of the familiar Plus model could signal a shift in design priorities and device positioning. In particular, the Galaxy S26 Edge is likely to get a thinner body and possibly a curved screen.
The base model of the Galaxy S26 could also change. A new number ending in 2 could signal a redesign of the device’s format – such as a larger display and a larger battery. This small but potentially significant update could be the reason for the ID change.

Analogy with Apple and possible doubts
Interestingly, this approach is reminiscent of Apple’s strategy: in 2025, the company may ditch the iPhone Plus model in favor of the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air. It’s possible that Samsung is following a similar path – with an attempt to offer a more refined and “premium” option in the mid-range price category.
It’s not all that clear-cut, however. Despite the arrival of the Galaxy S25 Edge, its sales are rumored to have fallen short of expectations. This may call into question the viability of the idea of ultra-thin smartphones as part of flagship series. Also, the Galaxy S26+ could still be added to the base at a later date, and the current Edge is only a test or experimental design for now.
