OpenAI has launched ChatGPT group chats worldwide

OpenAI began testing group chats in ChatGPT last week. Initially, the feature was only available to authorized users in Japan, Taiwan, New Zealand and South Korea — on Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans. The company promised to expand access after analyzing feedback, and has now announced the global launch of group chats.

«We’ve received positive feedback on the early pilot, so we’re expanding group chats to all authorized ChatGPT users on Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans globally in the coming days. We will continue to improve the user experience as the audience grows», —OpenAI said in an official blog post.

A user can invite up to 20 people to a single group chat. ChatGPT responses in such conversations are handled by ChatGPT 5.1 Auto — it automatically selects the most appropriate model based on the request and the features available to the user.

It’s also important that usage limits apply only to messages to which ChatGPT replies, not to communications between users within a chat room.
