Nissan reveals details of new version of Leaf electric car

Nissan, one of the pioneers of mass-market electric vehicles, is preparing to unveil the third generation of its iconic Leaf model. The full debut of the new product is expected this month, but in the meantime, the company is sharing the first details about the car, which is set to continue an important chapter in the brand’s history. The first version of the Leaf was a bold experiment and a symbol of Nissan’s philosophy – to do what others do not dare to do. Now the automaker intends to surprise the market once again.
The original Nissan Leaf hit the roads in 2010, and since then nearly 700,000 copies have been sold worldwide, which have collectively covered about 28 billion kilometers. The new Leaf should not only meet expectations, but also seriously compete with traditional gasoline and diesel-powered cars.

The main focus of third-generation development is aerodynamic efficiency. For models destined for the US and Japan, the coefficient of drag (Cd) is 0.26. European versions, thanks to unique wheels and mirrors, achieve an even lower Cd of 0.25.

Lower Cd means less air resistance, which directly affects energy efficiency and increases range. To achieve this, Nissan engineers have used a number of solutions: recessed door handles, active grille flaps, a smoothed underbody, optimized wheels and a fastback silhouette.

Even the panoramic glass roof has become a functional aerodynamic element. It has reduced body height by 12mm at key breakaway points without affecting the interior headroom. The glass has an electrochromic coating: with a single touch, the transparency can be adjusted, eliminating the traditional curtains that often interfere with rear passengers. An additional infrared coating reduces solar heat gain.
The new Leaf is built on the CMF-EV platform, specifically designed for electric vehicles. It features a completely flat floor with no center tunnel, making the cabin more spacious and visually lighter for all occupants.

With the official premiere of the third-generation Leaf scheduled for later this month, it’s clear: Nissan is committed to combining modern design, engineering innovation and practicality. The first version of the Leaf was «the pulse» of the brand, revolutionizing the auto industry. The next generation has an equally ambitious mission to reassert its leadership in the new era of electric cars.
