MacBook Pro with M5 chip tested in 10 games

Despite Apple touting the MacBook Pro with M5 processor as a high-performance solution for professional tasks, YouTube blogger Andrew Tsai decided to test its gaming capabilities. He tested the laptop in demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption 2, MGS Delta: Snake Eater, and more to gauge its gaming performance.

Games with macOS versions were run directly, while Windows versions were run via CrossOver — an app that lets you run Windows apps without having to install Windows. Testing of the model with 16GB of unified memory showed the following results:

  • Dota 2 (1080p, Ultra) – 105 fps;
  • Grid Legends (1080p, High) – 100 fps;
  • Baldur’s Gate 3 (1080p, Medium) – 40 fps;
  • Elden Ring (1080p, High, CrossOver) – 60 fps;
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider (1080p, High) – 60 fps;
  • Total War: Pharaoh Dynasties (1080p, High) – 70 fps;
  • Cyberpunk 2077 (1080p, Ultra, MetalFX Quality) – 35 fps;
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 (1080p, Ultra preset, CrossOver) – 30 fps;
  • MGS Delta: Snake Eater (1080p, preset Low, MetalFX Quality, CrossOver) – 20 fps;
  • Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (1080p, preset Low, MetalFX Quality, CrossOver) – 70 fps;
