LG introduces PuroTec antimicrobial material to the global market

LG Electronics is expanding its global presence in advanced materials with the global launch of PuroTec, an innovative glass powder with pronounced antibacterial and antifungal properties. The solution is targeted at the B2B segment and has already been demonstrated to a wide audience at the Chinaplas 2025, the largest industry exhibition in Shenzhen, China.
The new material is positioned as a versatile antimicrobial solution suitable for incorporation into plastic, paint, rubber and other base components. Even at the lowest dosage, PuroTec effectively inhibits microbial growth, prevents odor, contamination and surface discoloration. LG says the material can be easily integrated into manufacturing processes and adds value to products in areas such as household appliances, construction, medical and textiles.
At Chinaplas 2025, which brought together more than 4,000 companies from 150 countries, LG showcased a wide range of applications for PuroTec, emphasizing its potential for global partners. The product is the result of LG’s years of expertise in developing glass powders, which were previously used primarily in its own home appliances. Today, the company sees PuroTec as a critical area of its B2B strategy.

Since its first presentation in 2023, LG has been actively promoting the technology in Asian markets including China, Vietnam and India, and has an impressive portfolio of around 420 patents related to developments in this field.
The next step is to enter the markets of Europe and North America. A major international presentation of PuroTec will take place in October at the K 2025 Düsseldorf.
In parallel, LG continues to develop other promising materials. Among them is Marine Glass, a water-soluble functional glass that promotes restoration of the marine environment. When dissolved, it converts into ions that stimulate the growth of microalgae and other marine organisms, keeping the ecosystem in balance.
“We are committed to offering the market not just innovation, but solutions that meet the current challenges of B2B customers around the world,” commented Baek Seung-tae, head of LG Kitchen Solutions. – “Our goal is to go beyond traditional consumer electronics and become a prominent player in new technology industries.”
