Apple may remove the notch from Macs and iPhones

So many Apple devices these days feature a notch (which many call bangs) that it has practically become a brand, but continues to provoke disapproving looks and attempts to hide it. Now Apple may be on the verge of abandoning the feature for good.

All because the company recently filed a patent in Europe describing how future Apple devices, from Macs to iPhones, could get rid of the cutout once and for all, providing a screen experience without borders. It’s a grand idea, and Apple thinks it knows how to make it happen.

The problem at this point is that the display on your Mac or iPhone contains a whole bunch of electronics that are used every day, like the webcam, Face ID sensors, light sensor, and more. People want a display with thinner bezels, Apple’s patent explains, but that requires placing all those components underneath the screen. And that seriously limits the amount of light they get and, as a result, their efficiency. Which is, of course, strange, because there is no cutout in the iPad and the thickness of the frames is enough to place all the necessary modules there. Well, let’s see if Apple manages to get rid of «bangs» in the near future.
