Microsoft Surface Pro and Laptop lineup compact variants leaked

According to information from WinFuture, Microsoft will unveil two new compact devices in its Surface Pro and Surface Laptop lines at the Surface event scheduled for May 6. It’s important to note that these smaller variants aren’t a new generation, but rather an expansion of the existing Surface Pro 11 and Surface Laptop 7 models. Specifications, pricing, and availability remain unknown for now, but Microsoft is expected to provide more information on Tuesday.
Microsoft offers a wide range of Surface devices for different usage scenarios. The Surface Pro family includes 2-in-1 tablets that can function as a tablet and a laptop with a detachable keyboard (available separately). The Surface Laptop series sticks to the traditional folding laptop form factor.
Since June 2024, Microsoft has introduced the Surface Laptop 7 (in 15-inch and 13.8-inch sizes) and Surface Pro 11 (13-inch) lines, initially powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X chips for the mass market. Later, variants with Intel’s Lunar Lake processors aimed at business users were introduced.
Microsoft is reportedly expanding its product lineup with a compact version of the Surface Pro 11 with a 12-inch screen diagonal. A PixelSense Flow LCD panel (likely IPS) is expected, although refresh rates are not yet specified. Under the hood will be a Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100 SoC with eight Oryon cores and a Hexagon-based NPU with up to 45 TOPS performance.

SoC will be paired with 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM (likely at 8448 MT/s), which is not expandable. 256GB and 512GB UFS-based storage options are expected, which will also be non-upgradable. Microsoft claims a battery life of up to 16 hours with video playback, but actual battery life may vary. The leaked press slides only mention two USB Type-C ports for data transfer, charging, and external display connectivity.
The only other ports mentioned in the leaked press slides are two USB Type-C ports.
Analogously, the Surface Laptop 7 lineup will be rounded out with a new 13-inch screen variant that will complement the existing 13.8-inch and 15-inch models. The display will also be based on the PixelSense Flow LCD panel, but the refresh rate has been lowered from 120Hz to 60Hz. Like the new Surface Pro, this device will use Qualcomm’s same Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100 SoC with similar specs, 16GB of RAM and UFS-based storage options of 256GB or 512GB.
An «Island-style» keyboard with a glass trackpad is expected. Logging in to Windows Hello will be made easier with a built-in fingerprint scanner next to the keyboard. Port selection is fairly limited: two USB 3.2 Type-C ports, one USB Type-A port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack; there’s no Surface Connect port.
