Huawei unveiled the MateBook Fold foldable laptop with an 18-inch OLED screen

Huawei announced the MateBook Fold, an ultra-thin and lightweight laptop with a flexible 18-inch OLED display. The new product resembles the foldable iPad concept that Apple is rumored to be preparing, and is already available in the Chinese market.

The MateBook Fold folded is a device with a 13-inch screen, and when unfolded, it’s a full 18-inch OLED display with 3.3K resolution and up to 1,600 nits of brightness. Huawei uses the so-called “water” hinge: it allows you to unfold the screen fully, hold it at an angle and use the laptop in different modes – from a tablet to a dual-screen monoblock.
The device is 7.3mm thick when unfolded and 14.9mm when folded. The weight is about 1.2 kilograms. That makes the MateBook Fold thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro Max, though a bit thicker than the 13-inch iPad Pro.

You can control the device with a separate physical keyboard, or with a virtual keyboard that appears when you tap the screen with eight fingers and works in either mode.
Huawei is positioning the MateBook Fold as a combination of “ultimate aesthetics” and “the pinnacle of engineering”. The device is priced at 23,999 yuan (roughly $3330). Sales have launched only in China so far.

Amid rumors of a foldable device from Apple, which unconfirmed reports say won’t arrive until 2027 at the earliest, the MateBook Fold is already showing off what a hybrid between a tablet and a laptop could look like. Apple’s foldable gadget is expected to get a screen larger than 18 inches, too, and will combine iPad and MacBook features.
