Sen launched a 24-hour broadcast from the ISS in 4K quality

London-based Sen has unveiled a 24-hour, 4K broadcast from the International Space Station (ISS), giving everyone the opportunity to experience the unique sense of oneness with our planet that astronauts experience. The three SpaceTV-1 cameras, delivered to the station in March 2024 aboard the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, are mounted on the European Space Agency’s Columbus module.

.

What do the cameras show?

.

One of the cameras captures the Earth’s horizon, including a view of part of the ISS. The second camera focuses on the planet’s surface, capturing areas as large as 240×180 kilometers. The third camera focuses on the docking port of the Harmony module. Test recordings, including footage of Hurricane Milton in October 2024, have demonstrated high image quality.

Test footage has been used to capture a wide range of images.

Broadcast Availability

The broadcast is available virtually around the clock, although it may occasionally be interrupted due to temporary loss of connectivity. Sen’s project aims not only to showcase the beauty of the Earth, but also to raise awareness of its fragility. As astronaut Edgar Mitchell said, the view from space changes the way we see the world and encourages us to protect our planet.

Why is it important?

.

SpaceTV-1 was a collaboration between Sen, the European Space Agency and SpaceX. While similar broadcasts have existed before, the 4K format and 24/7 availability take the project to the next level. Now anyone can watch the changing time of day, cloud movement and the ISS in real time, which may prompt a rethinking of how you think about the Earth.

SpaceTV-1 is the result of Sen’s collaboration with the European Space Agency.
