The Russian analog of Starlink has been tested and it works

Russian startup Bureau 1440 has taken a significant step in the development of a domestic analog of the Starlink system by conducting the first satellite communication session in a 5G network. Rassvet-2 satellite, launched on May 16 this year, was used for the tests. The satellite successfully exchanged information with a subscriber terminal on Earth using NTN’s 5G protocol.
“Thanks to a fine calibration of the RF hardware, we were able to overcome the Doppler effect and delays in the communication channel with a satellite traveling at 27,000 km/h at an altitude of 800 km above the Earth’s surface,” Bureau 1440 said.

In addition, the company continued testing data transmission between satellites via laser communication, transmitting 450 GB at a distance of 220 km between spacecraft. A total of 14 inter-satellite communication sessions were performed at distances ranging from 30 to 220 kilometers, with a total data volume of more than 1.5 TB.
The Russian analog of Starlink is planned to be launched in 2027. The service will be provided by 288 spacecraft in low-Earth orbit.
