Xiaomi has introduced Mix Fold 3 with an improved hinge

Last year, Xiaomi launched the world’s thinnest foldable phone, the Mix Fold 2, and now a year later, the company has unveiled the Mix Fold 3 — a worthy sequel that has received a slew of upgrades.
A year later, Xiaomi launched the Mix Fold 2, the world’s thinnest foldable phone.

Let’s start with the body: the Mix Fold 3 is even thinner than its predecessor, measuring just 5.26mm when unfolded and 10.89mm when folded. Xiaomi engineers developed a new vertically arranged motherboard to reduce the phone’s dimensions.
Here’s how the Mix Fold 3 is designed.

The company has also developed an all-new proprietary hinge with 198 components and 17% less internal space. The new hinge features a 3-element structure and 14 micro-hinges that tighten the main folding display for increased strength, as well as a carbon ceramic steel pivot mechanism. The new Mix Fold 3 hinge also supports 45° — 135° opening, allowing you to position your phone like a mini laptop.

Mix Fold 3 features two E6 OLED displays. The main 8.03-inch LTPO panel has a resolution of 1960×2160 and a variable refresh rate of 120Hz. The panel features ultra-thin glass (UTG) and supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. The external 6.56-inch LTPO OLED display is coated with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and offers peak brightness up to 2,560 nits in auto mode.

Turning to the cameras, we note that Xiaomi has equipped the Mix Fold 3 with a four-camera system with Leica optics. There’s a 50MP Sony IMX800 main camera (23mm equivalent) with OIS, and a 12MP ultrawide module (15mm equivalent). A 10MP telephoto lens (75mm) with 3x zoom and a 10MP periscopic module (115mm) providing 5x optical zoom are responsible for zoom photography. Both telemodules are equipped with OIS.

Mix Fold 3 features Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset with up to 16GB RAM and up to 1TB storage. The Mix Fold 3 gets a larger 4,800mAh battery with 67W wired charging, same as the Mix Fold 2, but with an additional 50W wireless charging. The software used is MIUI 14 based on Android 13.
