Xiaomi 16 and 16 Pro will get major camera updates

The Xiaomi 16 series of flagships, including the 16 and 16 Pro models, will get major changes in photo capabilities. According to insiders, the smartphones will be unveiled in the last week of September 2025, and the focus will be on the cameras.

New sensor for selfies and improved main camera

According to reputable source Digital Chat Station on Weibo, Xiaomi will ditch the 32MP front camera that has been used since the Xiaomi 13 series. In its place will be a new 50-megapixel module with a wider angle of view, autofocus and support for 4K shooting at 60fps. This should significantly improve the quality of selfies and vlogs.

The main camera on the back will also be updated. Expect a 50-megapixel, 1/1.3-inch sensor in both models. The 16 Pro version, according to leaks, will get enhanced dynamic range and a ToF sensor for better depth detection in portrait shooting. In addition, Leica’s image customization has been improved.

Xiaomi bets on cameras and performance

All devices in the Xiaomi 16 lineup, including a possible Pro Max version, will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip. Earlier in April, it was reported that the base model will get a 7,000mAh battery – one of the most capacious figures among modern flagships.

With the improved sensors and refined Leica optics, the Xiaomi 16 is expected to be able to compete well with other camera-centric flagships like the Oppo Find X9 and Vivo X300, especially in low-light conditions and challenging scenes.
