Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 has peeling paint on the case

It’s only been a month since the launch of sales of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, and the first complaints about the body paint peeling have already surfaced online. Owners of the $2,000 and up device are reporting that the anodized coating on the aluminum frame is starting to peel off without drops or mechanical damage.
The first reports appeared on Reddit nearly three weeks ago. Users posted photos of peeling paint near the power button, USB-C port, and side edges. One owner claims to have “treated the smartphone with care from day one”, using only Samsung’s proprietary charger and protective case, but the coating has started to peel off anyway. Another user noticed a “speck” on the case, which turned out to be bare aluminum.
The situation is suspiciously similar to last year’s story with the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Back then, Samsung attributed the problem to “poor-quality chargers,” saying that poorly grounded adapters could damage the anodized coating. The company recommended that only branded power supplies be used.

The current complaints, however, cast doubt on this version. Some users claim to have used only original Samsung chargers. Others suggest that the anodizing process was not properly applied to the aluminum.
The model in the color Blue Shadow is the one most affected by the problem. Complaints about Jetblack are less common, and there have been no complaints about Silver Shadow yet.
The response from service centers has been mixed. Some customers have been told that “cosmetic defects” are not covered under warranty because they don’t affect the smartphone’s performance. For others, as a customer in Denmark, Samsung organized to take the device for examination. In some cases, the appeal was escalated to the head office.
For a smartphone costing $2,000 or more, such defects are a serious blow to its image. Especially against the backdrop of growing competition from Chinese manufacturers of foldable devices.
