Samsung will release a low-cost version of the foldable Galaxy Z Fold in 2024

Samsung is working on an entry-level model, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, to expand its presence in the foldable phone market. The budget model has a vested interest for the company due to the loss of Chinese consumers’ interest in Samsung’s foldable cellphones: the company had previously focused on the premium segment, but market trends and competition are leading to a change in strategy. Speaking of which, Samsung ranks third in the foldable phone segment in China, after Honor and Huawei.

The cheaper Z Fold 6 model could be released in the second half of 2024 alongside the initial versions of the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. This would be Samsung’s biggest move yet in foldable devices, with three new models in different price categories. Global shipments of foldable devices are forecast to grow 23% to 15.8 million units this year, indicating growing consumer interest. It’s worth noting, the new entry-level Z Fold 6 could be a game changer for Samsung in China.
