Samsung unveiled Galaxy S25 Edge: 5.8mm thick, 200MP camera

The Galaxy S25 Edge is officially unveiled – and it’s, without exaggeration, Samsung’s most spectacular flagship in years. The smartphone surprises not only with a record-slim body, but also with a top-of-the-line camera, flagship hardware, and a revamped approach to mobile technology. That seems to be how Samsung is going to get ahead of the upcoming iPhone 17 Air.

The thinnest Galaxy in history

The Galaxy S25 Edge has become Samsung’s first ultra-thin smartphone – just 5.8mm thick. By comparison, the standard Galaxy S25 is 7.2mm and the iPhone 16 is 7.8mm. And there’s room for a 3,900mAh battery and a powerful camera.

The device weighs just 163 grams. The body is made of titanium, and the front panel is protected by the new Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 glass. Samsung claims that the smartphone can withstand everyday use and is not afraid of drops, despite its thin profile.

The signature Galaxy style has been retained as well – smooth lines, neat shapes, and quality build. The design is not only spectacular, but also functional: the smartphone feels confident and pleasant in the hand.

Display: beautiful and comfortable even in the sun

The smartphone features a 6.7-inch curved AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 1-120Hz. The brightness reaches 2600 nits, which is enough for a comfortable experience even on a sunny day. Vision Booster and Adaptive Color Tone adjust contrast and color temperature to match the light, reducing eye strain.

It doesn’t have the anti-reflective coating of the S25 Ultra, but you can add it with a protective film.

A 200MP camera – just one, but what a camera

In place of the usual three or four modules, the Galaxy S25 Edge gets just two cameras:

  • Main: 200MP, ISOCELL HP2 sensor, f/1.7, OIS, 2x lossless zoom
  • Ultra Wide-angle module: 12MP, autofocus

The sensor is the same as in the Galaxy S25 Ultra, but with a different lens. Samsung promises 40% more brightness in night photos and improved detail. The auxiliary module comes in handy for landscapes and macro shots thanks to autofocus.

The camera’s autofocus is the same as the Galaxy S25 Ultra, but with a different lens.

There’s no separate telephoto lens, but because of the high resolution of the main camera, you can zoom digitally without much loss of quality. The selfie camera is the standard 12MP.

There’s also the proprietary ProVisual Engine processing system and Galaxy AI tools like Audio Eraser and Drawing Assist.

Power and AI on board

The Galaxy S25 Edge is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Elite chipset (exclusive to Galaxy), which delivers flagship performance and advanced AI right on the device – without turning to the cloud.

Cooling is handled by a new system with a thin but wide vapor chamber. It distributes heat more efficiently and helps the smartphone retain peak performance longer.

AI engines process images, scale them without loss of quality (ProScaler) and improve color display and sharpness (mDNIe).

Autonomy: less than desired

The 3900 mAh battery is a compromise for the sake of thickness. With moderate use, the smartphone is enough for a day, but there’s not much reserve for heavy tasks. It supports 25W (wired) and wireless charging, but there’s no fast 45W charging like the older models.

Still, at less than 6mm thick, you can’t expect miracles – and Samsung is banking on the energy efficiency of the processor and software.

Software Features and Support

The S25 Edge is equipped with Galaxy AI, a personalized feature set that helps with everyday tasks. There’s support for Now Bar and Now Brief, as well as integration with Google Gemini and the Gemini Live feature – it lets you show the AI what’s happening on the screen or in the camera and get real-time help.

Samsung guarantees 7 years of Android and security updates, which puts the Galaxy S25 Edge among the longest supported smartphones on the market.
