It looks like the company has managed to achieve IP58 protection for its Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5, which is not IP68 for most flagship phones, but it’s much better than anything else in those form factors.
The number «5» in the IP58 rating refers to protection against dust, and «8» — against water and moisture. The hinge in folding devices — is a complex and sensitive element, so having IP58 ingress protection is more than welcome.
To Samsung’s credit, the Z Fold and the Flip family have come a long way. The very first Z Fold had no protection, the Z Fold2 had a slight improvement in the hinge to protect against dust, and the Z Fold3 and Z Fold4 were the first to get an official protection rating, but only against water.
