Google and iFxit will offer Pixel Fold repair parts, tools and guides

Google Pixel Fold is finally on public sale. In addition, there is now confirmation that Google and iFixit will expand their partnership to repair parts and instructions for the Pixel Fold. A company spokesperson confirmed that OEM parts, tools, manuals and instructions will be available for the Pixel Fold for do-it-yourself repairs. These will include screen assemblies, batteries and charging ports at launch.

This event will make the Pixel Fold the first foldable phone to offer repairs for users. All other folding phone manufacturers provide in-house repairs, while user repairs void their warranty. In addition to iFixit’s repair tools, Google will offer in-store and mail-order repair options.

The company also plans to offer an extended warranty called Preferred Care, which will cover accidental mechanical breakdowns and accidental damage beyond the device’s warranty period. The extended warranty will be available on a monthly basis or as a one-time payment and will provide repair or replacement of the device, if necessary.
