Google announced the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro with Tensor G3 and ultra-wide cameras

It seems like the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro have been around for a while now thanks to leaks and teasers. But now they’ve been officially announced. The main innovation — the Tensor G3 chipset, made using Samsung’s 4nm process technology.
The main innovation is the Tensor G3 chipset.
The chipset features a 9-core processor with one Cortex-X3 main core, four Cortex-A715 cores and four more Cortex-A510 cores. The RAM capacity in the base smartphone is 8GB, while in the Pro it has been increased to 12GB. Both phones are IP68 water and dust resistant and feature fingerprint and face unlock.

The Pro version of the smartphone features a 6.7-inch QHD+ OLED display with 120Hz LTPO 120Hz QHD+ OLED display with a peak brightness of 2,400 nits, protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2. There are three colors to choose from — blue, obsidian, and beige.
All three colors are available.
On the back are three cameras — a 50MP wide-angle Octa-PD (with phase autofocus) with OIS, a new 48MP Quad-PD ultra-wide-angle and a 48MP Quad-PD with 5x zoom and 30x Super-Res digital zoom. The front camera is a new 10.5MP unit with a wide angle of view.

Beyond the cameras is a new skin temperature sensor that is exclusive to the 8 Pro. The sensor is reportedly a Melexis MLX90632 module and is designed solely to read temperature — there won’t be any clever photographic tricks with it.

As far as photographic tricks go, the new smartphone series features Photo Unblur, Magic Eraser, Best Take and Macro Focus (which uses ultra-wide range). The Pixel 8 Pro has a new Pro Controls feature that the 8 model doesn’t have. Finally, the 8 Pro has a 5,050 mAh battery with 30W wired charging and 23W wireless charging.

We move on to the Pixel 8, which is 10g lighter and smaller than its predecessor thanks to a switch to a smaller 6.2-inch FHD+ display. This display is better — it’s bright, with a peak brightness of 2,000 nits, and has a 120Hz refresh rate (it can switch between 60Hz and 120Hz). The top is equipped with Gorilla Glass Victus glass. The smartphone comes in Hazel, Obsidian, and Rose colors.

The Pixel 8 also gets a new ultra-wide module, though it’s not the same as the Pro. It’s a 12MP camera with autofocus and macro capabilities. Next to it is a 50MP Octa-PD main camera with 8x Super-Res digital zoom. The Pixel 8 features the same 10.5MP selfie camera. The Pixel 8 has a 4,575mAh battery with 27W wired charging and 18W wireless charging.

The two new Google Pixel 8 phones come with a free Google One VPN and the promise of 7 years of OS and security updates, which is the longest for Android. By the way, the last iOS 17 was only available for devices up to 5 years old.
