Samsung continues to develop its rugged series of devices, regularly releasing rugged smartphones and tablets. The company will soon unveil a new generation of XCover smartphones, which will likely be called the Galaxy XCover 8 Pro.

Samsung’s new XCover 8 Pro is the next generation of rugged smartphones.

Specifications

The upcoming smartphone has already appeared in the Geekbench database and has been certified by TÜV Rheinland. Four models have been spotted in the documentation: the SM-G766B, SM-G766U, SM-G766U1 and SM-G766W, indicating regional variations of the same device.

All four models have been spotted in the documentation.

The Galaxy XCover 8 Pro is expected to get a 4,265 mAh battery, a slight improvement over the XCover 7, which had a 4,050 mAh battery. It’s also known that the smartphone will be equipped with 6GB of RAM.

Performance will be provided by an eight-core chipset, with four cores running at 1.80GHz, three at 2.40GHz, and one reaching 2.50GHz. The GPU is listed as Adreno 810, indicating the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. This chip was first introduced last September and offers a 40% boost in graphics performance, a 30% improvement in AI processing and a 12% improvement in power efficiency.

Durability and protection

The Galaxy XCover series of smartphones focus on durability rather than power. The current XCover 7 is IP68 water and dust resistant and MIL-STD-810H certified, making it resistant to extreme temperatures, rain, dust, and drops.

The XCover 7 is designed to withstand extreme heat, rain, dust, and drops.

The new model, whether the XCover 8 Pro or XCover 7 Pro, will likely retain or even improve on those features.

Release date and outlook

Samsung is likely to unveil a new device in June or July 2025. Ruggedized smartphones remain a niche market segment, but Samsung continues to provide them with long-term software support, making the XCover one of the best options for those looking for a rugged smartphone.
