Apple has announced a new iPhone Air smartphone – the first in the lineup with “air” branding. The device is the thinnest iPhone in the company’s history, measuring just 5.6mm thick.

New design and display
The smartphone gets a 6.5-inch ProMotion display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and a peak brightness of 3000 nits. The body is designed in a new form factor, with a titanium frame encased in Ceramic Shield protective glass on both sides. Apple emphasizes that it’s the “most rugged design” in iPhone history.



Performance and chips
The iPhone Air is powered by the new A19 Pro processor, which the company has called the most powerful iPhone chip ever. According to Apple, its computing performance is comparable to the MacBook Pro. Despite the record-slim body, the manufacturer promises “outstanding” battery life.

The smartphone also features its own N1 antenna for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, as well as a new C1x modem that doubles the previous generation’s connection speeds.
Camera and new technologies

iPhone Air features an updated Fusion Camera System. It combines the capabilities of multiple modules and supports shooting with a 48-megapixel sensor that can simulate 2x zoom without loss of quality.

Slim body and internal layout

According to the publication, a significant portion of the iPhone Air’s internal space is taken up by the battery. The rest of the modular set of components is placed around the camera, which has received a noticeable thickening on the rear panel.
Updated iOS 26
The iPhone Air release coincides with the launch of iOS 26, and the updated operating system gets a new Liquid Glass design, with interface elements and icons getting a translucent “bubble” style. During the beta testing phase, users had mixed reactions to the changes.


Apple’s plans
According to Bloomberg, the release of the iPhone Air kicks off a three-year refresh cycle for the iPhone lineup. The company intends to introduce new form factors and redesigned designs, moving away from simply increasing features.
