MacRumors has obtained a research note from Apple analyst Jeff Poo, which says that all four iPhone 17 models will feature a 24MP selfie camera with six plastic lenses.
Apple began using a 12-megapixel selfie camera starting with the iPhone 11 and continued to use it until the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Jeff Poo’s leak suggests that the iPhone 16 series will also have a 12-megapixel front-facing camera, with a camera upgrade finally coming to the iPhone 17 series.
The increased megapixel count should result in sharper images with more detail.
The rumored 24-megapixel camera is expected to feature a six-element plastic lens for added benefits.
Jeff Poo suggests that the camera’s low-light performance could improve markedly, allowing for clearer selfies and video calls in far from ideal lighting conditions. What’s more, Apple’s Face ID facial recognition system, which is already a leader in smartphone security, could become even more accurate with an updated camera.
