Apple could introduce Tandem OLED displays in iPhones by 2028

Apple’s new iPad Pro features Tandem OLED panels, which are supplied primarily by LG Display. The South Korean company has been trying for some time to convince Apple to use the same technology in future iPhones as well.

There’s been no success so far, but a new report claims that Apple could introduce Tandem OLED panels in the 2028 iPhone (perhaps it will be the iPhone 20 or XX). No decision has been made yet, but LG is clearly interested: it would either make it the sole supplier of iPhone displays, or it would markedly increase the company’s share over its main competitor, Samsung Display. LG has 348 Tandem OLED-related patents registered in the US.

Tandem OLED technology involves placing two layers of OLEDs on top of each other, which increases brightness, extends screen life and improves energy efficiency at the same time.
