YouTube Music now has a playlist search feature

YouTube Premium remains one of the most rewarding entertainment subscriptions, in part because it doesn’t require you to sign up for a separate service to listen to music. But there’s more to YouTube Music’s success than that: many users appreciate it for its quality recommendations and useful features. Now they have another reason to be excited.

YouTube Music has started to gradually introduce a new feature that should save time when searching for your favorite songs within playlists. But so far, it’s only available to a small fraction of users.

According to a Reddit user with the nickname u/xerus9915, Google has added a new item called Find in playlist to the playlist menu. It appears in an additional menu that opens when you tap the three dots on the playlist page, and is located just below the Shuffle play option. With this feature, you no longer have to scroll through long track lists to find the song you’re looking for-just type in the title and play it immediately.

But don’t expect the feature to appear in the Android app just yet. Comments in the discussion indicate that Google hasn’t started rolling out the tool to Android users yet.

The feature was first discovered in iOS version 8.45.3, but it’s too early for iPhone owners to rejoice, too. Apparently, Google is conducting A/B testing, so most users won’t see the new option even if they have the right version of the app. That’s confirmed by Android Authority journalists, who also didn’t see Find in playlist on their devices.

There’s a limitation: You can only search regular playlists. Radio playlists from the library aren’t supported.

But there’s still a good chance the feature will be expanded. Google often rolls out new features gradually, similar to how Spotify first added the option to exclude tracks from preference profiles in playlists and then expanded it to individual songs.
