Mail Mail blocked 15 million spam emails in May

In May 2025, the Mail Mail service blocked 15 million fraudulent emails that were sent out on behalf of well-known marketplaces. In the messages, attackers offered to take part in a drawing for valuable prizes by following links to fake websites. The anti-spam system reduced the number of user complaints about such emails by 40%.

Fraudsters were sending out fake prize draws

In May 2025, the main type of spam was emails offering to take part in a giveaway drawing. Attackers sent mailings purporting to be from large marketplaces, promising to win several hundred thousand rubles or expensive prizes.

The emails contained links to phishing sites that mimicked the interface of popular marketplaces. On these pages, recipients were required to pay a “commission” to receive the winnings, and the transfers were made to individuals’ accounts. In addition, fake documents were posted on these sites to make them look more believable.

Fraudsters also attempted to obtain users’ personal details, including bank card numbers. Mail Mail blocked more than 3,000 domains that were used to send such emails.

Mail Mail has stepped up its defenses against scammers

Dmitry Moryakov, head of Mail Mail’s spam analysis team, noted that the company’s specialists are constantly updating protection algorithms:”Fraudsters are becoming more and more sophisticated, and we strengthen our filtering algorithms to protect users on a daily basis. The reduction in the number of spam complaints shows that our ML-systems can cope with unwanted emails, quickly learn themselves and create unfavorable conditions for fraudsters.

Post Mail advises users to be cautious: check the sender’s address, don’t click on questionable links, don’t enter personal information on unknown sites and report suspicious emails through special features in the email service.
