Meta* closes desktop versions of Messenger for Windows and macOS

From December 15, users will only be able to communicate via the web version of Facebook* or Messenger.

Meta* has announced that it will no longer support Messenger desktop apps for Windows and macOS. After December 15, 2025, Messenger will no longer work on PCs and will only be available through Facebook*.com or Messenger.com.

When it will stop working and what you need to do

The shutdown process will start early: users will receive notifications right in the app and will be able to use Messenger for another 60 days. After that, the desktop clients will be completely shut down.

The company recommends turning on Secure Storage beforehand, which is a secure storage area where you can save your chat history. Otherwise, all of your chat history will be deleted and cannot be recovered.

The Messenger app for macOS has already disappeared from the App Store. After December 15, those who try to open Messenger on a computer will be redirected to the website, while users without a Facebook account* will be redirected to Messenger.com.
