Digital service book became available in Garage Auto.ru

Auto.ru users now have a tool that will allow motorists to save the entire history of car maintenance in one place – a digital service book. Now you don’t need to keep paper receipts and purchase orders, you just need to take a picture of them. Computer vision technologies will digitize the document, and they will always be available in the mobile application Auto.ru in the Garage section. In the future, Garage will make it possible to estimate maintenance costs in advance and will be useful for confirming the car’s history when selling it.

Maintaining a personal car is a recurring cycle of expenses, but sometimes it can be difficult to remember or find exactly what work was done and how much it cost on a previous service visit. Putting your car in the Garage already allows you to keep track of manufacturer recalls, spread out your service fees, save money with great deals from service partners, and keep an eye on the value of your car on the market. Starting today, Auto.ru users have a new tool that allows them to systematize and reliably store information about expenses, thus eliminating the possibility of irretrievable loss of a purchase order.

It doesn’t matter how many service stations your car has been to. The digital copies will be stacked neatly and systematically inside the digital service book in the Garage section. Simply take a picture of the document and it will be automatically recognized and converted into an electronic format. Digitization of documents, which may differ significantly in format and content, is carried out using computer vision technology developed by the Yandex Research team. To accelerate further scaling of the project, which will reduce processing time, the Yandex Crowd team will train the ML model to recognize not only purchase orders, but also other documents that motorists regularly encounter. The multimodal model is used at Yandex Crowd to facilitate manual markup: the document is first recognized by the model, and then further validated by humans if necessary.
